Michael D. Slodov
Michael Slodov practices primarily in the areas of consumer litigation defense, with a focus on class action consumer defense matters.
Mr. Slodov graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law (J.D. 1990), where he was an Articles Editor of the Case Western Law Review, and received his undergraduate degree from Cleveland State University. Mr. Slodov joined Javitch, Block and Rathbone in Cleveland, Ohio, performing in commercial and civil litigation practice group in 1997. In 2004, Mr. Slodov became the firm's compliance officer and lead defense counsel, protecting the firm and its clients when they were sued by consumers for alleged FDCPA violations and related state law claims.
He has a distinguished career defending the Javitch firm and other debt collector clients in trial and appellate courts and has extensive experience with all aspects of consumer defense law and regulatory compliance issues. He has also contributed to numerous pro bono projects, including work on an amicus brief on behalf of the Ohio Creditor's Attorneys Association in the U.S. Supreme Court case of Jerman v. Carlisle, McNellie, Rini, Kramer & Ulrich (2010), which explored the scope of the bona fide error defense under the FDCPA, and served as a Trustee for the Alliance for the Mentally Ill Metro Cleveland.
He authored two law review articles, the most recent entitled: Documentation? I Don’t Have to Show You Any Stinkin’ Documentation! An Evaluation of the Verification Requirement of 15 U.S. § 1692g(b), appearing in 24 Loyola Consumer L. Rev. 156 (2011). His professional memberships include Ohio State Bar Association; Member Attorney Program, ACA International. He holds a PPMS certification from the American Collectors Association, is a Member of the ACA Attorney Program; a member of the Northern District of Ohio Federal Court Panel of ADR Neutrals; a certified mediator; has been Adjunct Faculty for Ursuline College for Business Law; and been an industry presenter for many groups including: the Ohio State Bar Association, the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys, and the National Business Institute.► Download vCard
