James C. Vlahakis
James Vlahakis is a senior attorney in our Chicago office and part of the Firm’s Consumer Defense and Commercial Litigation Group, with a sub-specialty for employment and discrimination disputes. He received his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University.
James manages a nationwide litigation practice regarding all types of individual and class action cases involving consumer rights and debtors. Mr. Vlahakis has defended hundreds of class actions brought pursuant to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act and the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. He has also represented clients regarding TCPA issues before the Federal Communications Commission. Mr. Vlahakis has represented governmental entities in federal court in the areas of First Amendment law, constitutional law claims, prisoner litigation, housing discrimination, wrongful death claims and false arrest/imprisonment. In his governmental based practice, Mr. Vlahakis has served as Special Assistant Illinois Attorney General and as a Special Assistant Cook County State's Attorney.
In addition to being a life-long soccer fan, Mr. Vlahakis has served as outside legal counsel for the Chicago Fire Soccer Club franchise of Major League Soccer. He has also represented players and coaches in Green Card proceedings.
Mr. Vlahakis received the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin's "40 Under 40" award which each year recognizes forty peer-nominated lawyers under the age of 40. Mr. Vlahakis has also been recognized as a "Rising Star" by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine (2008–2009) and as a peer recognized member of the “Leading Lawyers Network” every year since 2011 in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Governmental, Municipal, Lobbying & Administrative Law. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Vlahakis was a partner in the Chicago office of a nationwide firm where he defended consumer class actions and civil rights cases.► Download vCard
